Plans built to grow your business

Each organization belongs to a Free, Basic, or Premium plan. The Free plan includes one free Intro space, as well as the subset of features described in the table above.

Using the self-service payment option within the web app, Customers can upgrade from the Free to Basic plan to increase their plan limits (e.g., users and locales), obtain additional features (e.g., the Launch app), or gain access to prioritized Technical Support.

Once on the Basic plan, customers may choose to upgrade the included Intro space to a Medium space to increase their space limits (e.g., content types and environments), or buy additional spaces. These spaces don’t require a contract and can be canceled or downgraded at any time.

Our Premium plans have a number of advanced features for governance and scale, higher plan limits, and access to larger space sizes — with pricing customized to business needs. These plans best support large projects and are behind some of the biggest brands across the globe. Contentful’s free Intro space accelerates digital experiences by enabling developers to get started right when they sign up and build without barriers using the latest technologies, such as GraphQL, and their programming platform/language of choice.

The free space is meant to empower personal projects, hack weeks, philanthropic builds — or just to kick the tires.

Contentful has robust developer documentation to help you get started, and a Discord community with thousands of members eager to lend a hand. Technical support via chat and email, and access to a Customer Success Manager, is available with paid plans.

The Intro space replaces the free Community space which was previously provided to new accounts. Customers with this legacy space type will see it upgraded to an Intro space over time.

The Free plan includes up to 5 users. Upon upgrading to the paid Basic plan, this expands to a total of 20 users. Upgrading to a Premium plan is a significant step up — it includes thousands of users depending on the plan you build with our Sales team.

Once you reach the limit of an item — environments, content types, and records in a space, or roles, locales, users included in a plan — you won’t be able to add on more of that item. If you need more, you have two options: you can delete an existing item or upgrade to a space or plan with higher limits. Space admins can upgrade/downgrade spaces and plans directly in the web app.

Plans and spaces also include also include Usage Limits for API calls and asset bandwidth (in terabytes) on our CDNs. With the Free plan, you’ll be rate limited once you exceed 3,000,000 API calls in a given month. (1,000,000 from Free plan plus 2,000,000 from the included Intro space).

On the Basic plan, instead of rate limits, you’ll be charged an overage fee should you exceed the 4,000,000 API calls allotted in a given month (2,000,000 from Basic plan plus 2,000,000 from the included Intro space). Additional Medium spaces purchased increases the limits by 2,000,000 each per month.

Extra API calls cost $5 for every 1,000,000 calls over the Usage Limits. Accounts without a valid credit card on record will be frozen if they exceed the limits.

Premium plan customers are exempt from API overages. They can deliver as many API calls as needed per month with no additional costs.

All plans are subject to asset bandwidth limits on our CDNs as well, per the plan and space tables above. For example, the Free plan limit is 0.85 TB per month (0.1 from Free plan plus 0.75 from the included Intro space).

Extra asset bandwidth is $65 per 1 TB over the Usage Limits. Note that a very low percentage of our customers hit this limit.

Self-service subscriptions on our Basic plan are offered on a month-to-month, cancel-anytime basis. Premium plan customers who wish to access advanced features and benefit from special services require an annual contract. Basic customers can pay for the subscription with American Express, MasterCard, and Visa credit cards. Premium customers have the option to pay by wire transfer.
