FAQs for the Contentful Free plan changes
Why did you change your free offering?
The intention of our Free plan is to support personal projects and enable users to explore Contentful before moving into full-scale production — which this plan is not intended to support. To that end, we’re adjusting our entitlements to more explicitly align with those goals.
Will this change affect me?
These changes will not impact the vast majority of our users. If you fit into this group, you can continue using our Free plan as you are today.
Please note that we aren't migrating to the new limits until April 30, 2025. So, if these changes do impact your organization, you have plenty of time to decide which of these options is the best fit:
Adjust your usage to fit within the new Free plan entitlements.
Upgrade to a plan that suits your scale of deployment. (We’re offering discounts on both our Lite and Premium plans. Please get in touch with us if you would like to explore a more robust solution with fewer restrictions.)
Find a better solution that fits your long-term needs. We’ll be sad to see you go — and hope you consider us again in the future — but we want to give you enough time to migrate to a solution that best serves you.
How long do I have before my entitlements change?
Free entitlements will change on April 30, 2025. We’ll communicate this migration with each Free organization, so keep an eye on your inbox.
What changes should I expect with the new Free plan?
Changes to the Free plan include:
Increase in users. You’ll have 10 seats available instead of 5 (we encourage you to invite your team to explore Contentful together).
Only Admin and Editor roles are available.
100k API calls per month.
50 GB asset bandwidth per month.
One less environment in the included space.
A single user will be limited to creating one organization (multi-space architecture use cases are far better supported by our Premium plans).

What are the limits on the Free plan?
The Free plan includes:
1 Starter space which has a limit of 25 content types, 10,000 records, and 2 environments (including a master environment).
Platform entitlements which now support 10 users, 2 standard roles, 2 locales, 50 GB of asset bandwidth per month, and 100K API calls per month.

Where can I check my current plan and usage details?
To check which plan you’re on, sign into the Contentful web app and review the information displayed on the Subscription page.
To see your asset bandwidth and API call usage, switch to the “Usage” tab in the top ribbon.
What if I am ready to upgrade?
We’re happy to offer our Lite plan at 50% off for the first 6 months if you upgrade by Feb. 28, 2025. You can upgrade to this plan within your Contentful web app under the Subscription page.

How do I claim the Lite promo offer?
We’re happy to offer our Lite plan at 50% off for the first 6 months if you upgrade by Feb. 28, 2025.
To be eligible for this promotional offer, you must meet the following criteria:
All Community or Free (Legacy) plan customers are eligible to participate in the promotion within the Promotional Period as defined below.
Promotional period: The limited-time promotion offer can be claimed between Nov. 18, 2024, 00:01 a.m. PDT and Feb. 28, 2025 11:59 p.m. PDT
Any user with the role of organization owner can claim the promotion for your Community or Free (Legacy) account.
Upon claiming the offer and upgrading your Community or Free (Legacy) plan to the Lite plan, you will receive 50% off your monthly plan subscription price for the first 6 months of your subscription, effective from the day of claiming the offer.
Please note that the discount applies to the plan price only. The purchase of an additional Lite space is not included in this promotional offer.
To claim the offer, log into your Community or Free (Legacy) account and navigate to the Subscription page. Click “Upgrade to Lite plan.” Your discount will be automatically applied at checkout.

How do I claim the discounted Premium annual plan offer?
We’re happy to offer one of our annual Premium plans at a discount, if you get in touch with us by Feb. 28, 2025.
To be eligible for this promotional offer, you must meet the following criteria:
All current Community, Free (Legacy), Team, or Basic plan customers are eligible to participate in the promotion within the Promotional Period as defined below.
Promotional period: The limited-time promotion offer can be claimed between Nov. 18, 2024, 00:01 a.m. PDT and Feb. 28, 2025 11:59 p.m. PDT
To claim the offer, simply submit a contact sales form within the promotional period defined above. One of our sales representatives would be happy to apply the discount to your annual plan.
What will happen to my plan on April 30?
Your entitlements will change from the previous Free (Legacy) limits to the new Free limits.
After this change on April 30, 2025, if your platform and space usage is within the new limits, you do not need to do anything.
After the change on April 30, 2025, if your platform or space usage is over the new limits, and you choose not to upgrade your account and you keep exceeding the entitlements on the new Free plan and/or Starter space license following April 30, you will be prompted to rightsize or risk your org being suspended. You will receive additional communications to take corrective action before suspension occurs.
NOTE: If you hold a Free (Legacy) account and are currently exceeding monthly asset bandwidth or API call limits, you may receive further communication about adjusting monthly usage to become compliant by April 30.
